Earlier this month, America’s inner child was nurtured when Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin and former Disney star Brenda Song announced the birth of their first child. The couple gave birth to a baby boy on April 5, naming him Dakota Song Culkin— in homage to Macaulay’s late sister.
For many, this announcement came as a complete surprise, and it seemed as though even the most adamant 90s children were unaware of this Hollywood romance. However, upon closer examination, it seems clear that the couple are a perfect fit for one another, and seem to share an unconditional bond over their unconventional adolescent lives in Hollywood. “Child actors, we don’t even get to talk about it, you just look each other in the eye and you nod and we know,” Song told Entertainment Tonight back in 2019, when asked about working with her future beau.
Indeed, the couple have been going strong ever since they met back in 2017, and over the years, they have not missed any opportunity to share with the public their undying affection for one another. In a social media post for Culkin’s birthday last year, Song called him a ‘magical being’ before gushing warmly about their relationship. “I could sit here and write endlessly about how wonderful, kind, loving, genuine, loyal, honest, brilliant and hilarious you are, and how grateful I am that I get to share and do this life thing with you.” Song then continued. “My unicorn that I never thought could exist, I am the luckiest person in the world because I am loved by you.”
Culkin has also not shied away from expressing sentimental tenderness about Song in public. Although, his comments always feel a bit more restrained. In a 2018 interview, Culkin talked about starting a family with Song, and even hinted that they’d been practicing. “This one’s a good one, so I’m probably going to put some babies in her in a little bit,” he stated, before adding. “I mean, we’ve definitely been practicing.”
So while the world may not have been aware of this unconventional Hollywood romance until recently, the pair have been (metaphorically) yelling about it for years. But I guess that in this situation at least, a baby is much louder than words.
