Aaron Rodgers casually dropped the bomb that he got engaged during the NFL Honors broadcast on Saturday, Feb. 6. This announcement came just one week after romance rumors began circling about the NFL star and actress Shailene Woodley.
In his acceptance speech on Saturday, The 37-year old said, “2020 was definitely a crazy year filled with lots of change and growth, some amazing memorable moments,” he said. “One hundred eighty straight days of having my nose hair scraped, playing for very little fans or no stands the entire season. I got engaged. I played some of the best football of my career.”
Although the pair have yet to officially confirm their engagement, multiple reports have verified that Woodley and Rodgers are engaged. A source revealed to ET that the pair have been together for months. “They have been keeping their relationship private for the most part, but are very into each other.”
Rodgers and Woodley both recently ended long-time relationships with their former partners in early 2020. Rodgers had been in a two-year-long relationship with race car driver Danica Patrick. The Divergent star revealed in an interview in April 2020 that she had split from rugby player Ben Ovlavola after almost three years together.
The Green Bay Packers quarterback and Big Little Lies actress are an unlikely pair which is why most were surprised when talk of a romance between the two began. But it was even most shocking when Rodgers revealed his engagement just a week after the said rumors started.
Even though most of us are surprised, friends of the pair are not. E! News spoke to a source close to the couple who said, “They had a very intense connection from the beginning.” The source continued, “They both knew early on that it was something special and different from what they had experienced in other relationships. It’s a quick engagement, but for those that know them, it didn’t come as a surprise.”
“They have spent the entire fall together and lived together throughout,” E’s source said. “She is very supportive of his career and embraced his life in Green Bay. Even though she has her own career and life, she wanted to be there with him. Over the next year, they plan to spend some time traveling and enjoying warmer climate.”
