Rapper Isaac Freeman III, better known as Fatman Scoop, tragically passed away at the age of 56 after collapsing on stage during a performance in Connecticut. The beloved artist was performing at Hamden Town Center Park’s Green and Gold Party on Friday when he suddenly experienced a medical emergency. According to Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett, Scoop was rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance but sadly passed away soon after.

Just moments before the collapse, a video captured Fatman Scoop engaging the crowd with his signature high-energy performance. After he fell, another performer led the audience in prayer as people gathered at the back of the stage to assist.

Scoop’s tour manager, Birch Michael, confirmed his death via social media, expressing deep sorrow. “I am honestly lost for words,” Michael wrote. “You took me all over the world and had me performing alongside you on some of the biggest and greatest stages. The things you taught me have truly made me the man I am today.”

The rapper’s booking agency, MN2S, also issued a statement, describing Fatman Scoop as a “beloved figure in the music world” whose “iconic voice, infectious energy, and great personality made an indelible mark on the industry.”

His family shared an emotional tribute on social media, remembering him not only as an artist but as a “father, uncle, and friend” who provided laughter, strength, and courage to those around him.

Fatman Scoop’s influence extended beyond rap music. He was best known for his 1999 hit single “Be Faithful” and his collaborations with major artists like Missy Elliott and Mariah Carey. Missy Elliott paid tribute, tweeting, “Fatman Scoop’s voice & energy have contributed to MANY songs that made people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades. Your IMPACT is HUGE & will NEVER be forgotten.”

Fatman Scoop was scheduled to perform at the British music festival Reminisce later this year. Festival organizers expressed their heartbreak, writing, “Rest easy, our friend. You will forever remain in our hearts.”
