After a bizarre sequence of events last week, Lady Gaga’s dog walker is now in recovery following what he describes as “a very close call with death.”

On Feb. 24th Ryan Fischer was shot in the chest while he was walking the singer’s French bulldogs. The two men who attacked him then stole two of the three dogs, leaving Asia, Lady Gaga’s black bulldog, lying next to his injured body. In an emotionally charged Instagram post that Fischer has released following the incident, he refers to Asia as his ‘guardian angel,’ and says that he cradled the dog as he waited for help to arrive. “I cradled Asia as best I could, thanked her for all the incredible adventures we’d been on together, apologized that I couldn’t defend her brothers, and then resolved that I would still try to save them… and myself.”

Luckily, Fischer was rushed to the hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery, according to the BBC. In the days which followed, the ‘Bad Romance’ singer took to social media to speak out about the attack, offering a reward for the safe return of her beloved dogs and praising Fisher for his actions.

“My beloved dogs Koji and Gustav were taken in Hollywood two nights ago. My heart is sick and I am praying my family will be whole again with an act of kindness. I will pay $500,000 for their safe return.” Lady Gaga then stated: “I continue to love you Ryan Fischer, you risked your life to fight for our family. You’re forever a hero.”

Fortunately, Koji and Gustav were recovered and reunited with the singer shortly after the attack, when an unnamed woman brought the dogs to the police. While the details of how the dogs were found remain unclear, the woman who found them appears to be ‘uninvolved and unassociated’ with the attack, according to the police.

The entire incident was captured on a doorbell surveillance video at a nearby house. The video, which is now under investigation, shows a light-colored sedan stopping next to Fisher, according to CNN. The footage contains graphic audio as Fischer struggles with the attackers before a gunshot is heard and the two men race back to the car.

Luckily, the dogs have now been recovered. However, there are still no motives or suspects in the case. Photo sourced through Entertainment Weekly.

Currently, there have been no arrests in the case. Police are still not sure about the motive and are unsure whether the attackers knew that the dogs belonged to the pop star. There are currently no suspects in the case either. In a story that has been stranger than life from the beginning, these unanswered questions show that the story isn’t quite over yet. And in the aftermath of the incident it seems like everyone is asking the same question: Why?
