After quietly dating for six years Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx called it quits months ago, after attending the Met Gala together. The two ended the relationship privately, but the news soon became public when Foxx was seen holding hands with 21-year-old singer, Sela Vave, in August.
Amidst criticism online regarding the age gap between Vave and Foxx, Foxx took to Instagram explaining that he is a mentor to Vave and that their relationship is purely platonic.
Vave commented on the rumors as well, posting Foxx’s video on her own Instagram, with the caption, “For the people who care… here is the TRUE story(swipe)… for everyone else you can keep talking and calling me a whore, slut, home wrecker, thot, gold digger, that I should die, and what ever else you want. Because it doesn’t matter to me, I’m out here to work and do what I love most. #music #killthedoublestandard.”
While it became clear Holmes and Foxx were no longer a couple, it has been unclear what specifically ended the relationship, as the two have not publicly commented on the split. However, it has been reported from multiple sources that the split had nothing to do with Foxx’s relationship with Vave and was entirely to do with convenience and logistics.
According to Us Weekly, Holmes ultimately ended the relationship because “their lives were different,” explaining that the two were both focused on their own personal priorities and couldn’t integrate their lives together. The two reportedly lived in two separate cities, Holmes in New York City and Foxx in Los Angeles, and only connected occasionally.
A source from Entertainment Tonight added that Holmes and Foxx “never had a typical relationship. They have always been incredibly independent and their lives didn’t revolve around each other.” The source explained further that the two were “just both caught up with their own families, careers and obligations that their relationship had to take a back seat.”
A source from People explained that the split was mutual and respectful, stating that the relationship, “ran its course. This industry is very tough on relationships,” the source explained. “Jamie thinks Katie is an incredible human being. They had a very, very deep connection. They brought each other a lot of joy and laughter.”
