During a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Zendaya hinted at the possibility of making a return to music one day, despite prioritizing her acting career in recent years.
The Challengers star reflected on her past experiences in the music industry, noting the challenges that come with blending music and business.
“I love music, and it’s something that’s been special to me,” Zendaya told host Jennifer Hudson. “I think being in the music industry, maybe it, it didn’t kill the joy of music, but it’s when you put music and business together. Sometimes it cannot feel so good.”
Zendaya’s debut self-titled album, released in 2013, featured the hit single “Replay.” However, she shifted her focus to acting, with notable roles in films and TV shows like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Euphoria.
“When the right timing presents itself, maybe I would, you know, put out a little something,” Zendaya teased. “Don’t get crazy! We’ll see, but maybe one day.”
While she hasn’t released solo music recently, Zendaya has collaborated with other artists, including Labrinth, who contributed to the hit HBO series Euphoria.
Zendaya also shared insights into her surprise appearance during Labrinth’s set at Coachella last year, where she performed renditions of “I’m Tired” and “All For Us.”
The Dune: Part Two star praised Labrinth as “so talented” and a “wonderful person,” revealing that she initially declined his offer to perform at Coachella due to stage fright.
“He asked me if I wanted to come out and perform and immediately I was like ‘Oh, absolutely not.’ I was like, ‘I can’t do that,’” Zendaya recalled, citing past experiences of stage fright. However, she eventually convinced herself to embrace the opportunity, acknowledging that she “can’t run from this forever.”
Zendaya’s Coachella performance marked her return to the stage after more than seven years, showcasing her willingness to overcome challenges and embrace new opportunities in her career.
