Iconic music artist turned successful business mogul, Rihanna, finally took a break from running her cosmetics empire, her hugely successful lingerie line as well as her revolutionary luxury clothing brand to pose for the cover of Vogue, as well as participate in an interview in which she reveals details about new music, philanthropy and her dating life.

In 2017 Fenty Beauty revolutionized the beauty industry by introducing 40 shades of foundation in their first launch, creating a new standard of inclusivity, termed, “the Fenty effect.” The brand reportedly made nearly $600 million in their first year.

When it comes to her fashion endeavors, rivaling brands like Victoria’s Secret, Rihanna shook up the lingerie market with Savage X Fenty by offering styles in a wider range of sizes and shades of nude. The theatrical fashion shows as well as advertisements for the brand have also featured diverse model castings that showcase these aspects of the line.

Rihanna’s luxury fashion brand, Fenty maison, was also founded with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton making Rihanna the first woman to create a brand for LVMH and the first black woman to lead a major luxury fashion house.

While Rihanna has been busy, she confirmed that she was working on music more than a year ago, however she has not detailed any progress on the project since. She revealed to Vogue though that she plans for it to be “reggae-infused.”

“It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae. But you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks.” She continued, “it’s in my blood. It doesn’t matter how far or long removed I am from that culture, or my environment that I grew up in; it never leaves. It’s always the same high. Even though I’ve explored other genres of music, it was time to go back to something that I haven’t really homed in on completely for a body of work.”

As far as release dates go, she has none in mind, but does intend to return to music eventually. “Music is, like, speaking in code to the world, where they get it. It’s the weird language that connects me to them. Me the designer, me the woman who creates makeup and lingerie—it all started with music. It was my first pen pal–ship to the world. To cut that off is to cut my communication off. All of these other things flourish on top of that foundation,” she explained.

Rihanna also keeps philanthropy center stage when it comes to the numerous roles she takes on. Both Savage X Fenty and Fenty Beauty support the Clara Lionel Foundation, the nonprofit she founded in 2012 to fund education, emergency response programs and climate resilience mostly in the Caribbean.

A year after Hurricane Maria, Rihanna’s foundation toured Puerto Rico and noticed that health clinics were still closed, causing unwanted pregnancies, pregnancy complications, and HIV rates to spike. The foundation has now placed a focus on women’s health as it intersects with climate initiatives.

Rihanna rarely speaks publicly about her relationships, yet many have suspected that she is dating Saudi businessman, Hassan Jameel. While she did not name names, she did reveal to Vogue that she is dating, stating, “I’m actually in an exclusive relationship for quite some time, and it’s going really well, so I’m happy.”
