Cardi B was officially just announced as the new face of Balenciaga as her picture is now on a billboard for the fashion house outside the Louvre in Paris, France.

Cardi B is a rapper, songwriter, TV personality, actress, and now the face of a high-fashion campaign. She wears many hats and all of them are designer. Cardi B is no stranger to the fashion industry as she’s had various lines with Fashion Nova and has made appearances at the Met Gala in 2018 and 2019 wearing Jeremey Scott and Thom Browne, respectively.

Now, Cardi B is the new face of Balenciaga! This announcement comes on the heels of Cardi B’s new song “WAP” hitting No.1 on the Billboard charts. She took to Instagram to announce this partnership on September 1st. “Ya looking at the face of a @Balenciaga campaign! I remember how I felt seeing myself on a billboard in NYC Times Square but PARIS! Wish I was there to see it in person!”

Cardi B has always been a fan of Balenciaga as she’s been photographed wearing their designs while out and about and even rapping about them on occasion “I like those Balenciagas, the ones that look like socks.”

The promo pictures shared by Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, were self-shot in LA during quarantine for COVID-19. The picture features Cardi flaunting a black bob and silky black dress surrounded by greenery and yellow children’s toys. You can see this photo displayed outside the Louvre, facing the Seine river in Paris France.

Cardi B shares this first with the current fashion director of Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia. As it’s Cardi’s first time being the face of a major fashion house and Gvasalia’s first time putting a celebrity on a campaign. This is new territory for Gvasalia as he is known for making the everyday person faces his campaigns but he seems to have had a change of heart. Gvasalia was quoted saying “The new Balenciaga women, the women who wear the clothes, are my celebrities,” in response to why he has shied away from including celebrities in his campaigns.
