After much anticipation, and names slowly rolling in regarding the casting of Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman films, Zoë Kravitz has been announced as Catwoman. Kravitz will join an iconic group of women who have taken on the role alongside Robert Pattinson who has been announced as Batman.

This upcoming reboot of the Dark Knight series is rumored to be an adaptation of The Long Halloween comic book story. Batman is expected to go up against Kravitz’ Catwoman as well as The Riddler who is to be played by Paul Dano.

While Kravitz may best be known for her role in Big Little Lies, she is no stranger to superhero franchises, as she has already appeared in three. This is also not her first experience in the role of Catwoman, as she voiced the animated character in the Lego Batman film.

Kravitz has been eyeing the role of Catwoman for some time, actually auditioning for the role during casting for the original Dark Knight series, which ultimately went to Anne Hathaway. Her time, however, has come to take on the role, following in the footsteps of Hathaway, Julie Newmar, Lee Meriweather, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, and Camren Bicondova.

Kravitz’ stepfather, Jason Momoa who plays Aquaman, congratulated her on Instagram, writing, “I’m so proud of u zozo bear,” he wrote. “On and off screen OHANA. DC WB ohana Lola and Wolfies big sister is CAT WOMAN.
“Unbelievable so freaking stoked. Your going to have so much fun Aloha P bear.”

Anne Hathaway congratulated Kravitz on Instagram as well, stating, “The biggest congrats to Zoë Kravitz on landing the role of a lifetime. Well, one life anyway…”

Halle Berry also shouted out Kravitz, taking to Twitter to say, “special shout-out to your new #CatWoman, the eternally graceful & extremely bad ass Zoë Kravitz. Keep shining Queen & welcome to the family!”
