How to Make the Most of the 2020 CIAA Tournament

The 15th and final CIAA men’s and women’s college basketball tournament in Charlotte is set for Feb. 25-29 with games at Bojangles’ Coliseum and Spectrum Center. This is the last time the event will be held in Charlotte before shifting to Baltimore in 2021. So, if you are attending this year’s tournament, make the most of it.

Over the course of the event, 22 games are scheduled. The event will begin at Bojangles’ Coliseum Feb. 25-26 before moving to the Spectrum Center Feb. 27-29.

Tickets to the 75th annual tournament range from $30 to $225, based on the dates and seats selected. Courtside tickets are $150 per session for Thursday and Friday and $225 for Saturday. All-session packages to all 22 games also start at $200. Tickets can be found through Ticketmaster, the CIAA office and the Bojangles’ Coliseum and Spectrum Center box offices.

Regardless of what tickets you choose, the sales will directly benefit the CIAA’s 12 schools and provide scholarship money to the student-athletes who are participating, according to a CIAA news release.

It is expected that around 150,000 fans and alumni from across the U.S. will attend, meaning there will be tons of entertainment outside of the sporting event to enjoy.

If you’re a music fan, two big names will be performing in Charlotte around the time of the event. Diana Ross is set to perform Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Belk Theater at 8 pm 130. Tickets start at $35.

If you are more into country music, North Carolina native, Scotty McCreery will be performing at Coyote Joe’s on Friday, Feb. 28, at 11 pm.

For nightlife, there are many options, but for a more unique experience, BET is hosting a Rap City 90’s Party at Bar Louie Feb. 27, starting at 9 pm. Admission is $10 – $35. Celebrity comedian, Chris “Da Mayor,” will be hosting the event.

One of the most anticipated events lined up is the Millennium Age Silent Party. Described as, “your typical party…with no speakers or amps. Instead, attendees don wireless headphones and turn them to various stations, then boogie on the dance floor amidst other revelers dancing to whatever’s in their headphones.”

The event is divided into three channels: red station, featuring Da Baby, and Charlotte native music, the blue channel, featuring Pop Smoke hits and NYC music, and the green station, featuring Wale hits and DMV music.

If you’re a fan of comedy, or a comedian yourself, The Comedy Zone is hosting an open mic night on Feb. 27, at 8 pm local time. 

Or, if you’re just looking to have a good time wherever the night takes you, Charlotte Verlocal is hosting a brewery crawl your on Feb. 27, starting at 4 pm. three favorite breweries in Charlotte. The tour showcases, “a variety of local beers and live music in three unique neighborhoods of Charlotte.” Tours are available at $49 per adult for three hours. The tour includes three stops and your first beer free as well as an order of fried pickles at Fitzgerald’s after the tour.

Even if you’re not a sports fan, half of the fun still awaits you at the last CIAA tournament in Charlotte. Whether you’re looking for specific events to attend, or looking to play it by ear, there will be tons to offer.
