Rapper Tory Lanez, legally known as Daystar Peterson, was hospitalized on May 12, 2025, after being stabbed 14 times by another inmate at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. The attack occurred around 7:20 a.m. in a housing unit of the facility where Lanez is serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion.

According to a statement on Lanez’s Instagram account, he sustained multiple stab wounds to his back, torso, head, and face, resulting in the collapse of both lungs. He was temporarily placed on a breathing apparatus but is now breathing independently. The post also mentioned that despite the severity of his injuries, Lanez is in good spirits and thankful for his recovery.

Prison staff responded promptly to the incident, providing immediate medical aid before Lanez was transported to a hospital in Bakersfield for further treatment. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, along with the Office of the Inspector General, has launched an investigation into the stabbing. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no suspects have been publicly identified.

Lanez’s incarceration stems from his conviction in December 2022 on three felony charges related to the July 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete. During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez shot her in the feet after an argument as they were leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s residence. She required surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet. ABC News+12AP News+12People.com+12KBAK+1Wikipedia+1

The case garnered significant attention, highlighting issues of violence and gender dynamics within the hip-hop community. Lanez has maintained his innocence and, in 2024, filed a habeas corpus petition alleging that critical evidence was withheld during his trial. AP NewsVulture

Despite his incarceration, Lanez has remained active in music. He recently announced the completion of a new album titled “Peterson,” recorded entirely while in prison using AI technology. The album is slated for release in the summer of 2025.

Lanez is eligible for parole in 2029. The recent stabbing incident adds to the complexities surrounding his imprisonment and ongoing legal battles.
