Following a series of questionable Tweets from Kanye West regarding his personal and family life, many began to speculate that these Tweets were the result of West’s battle with his. Wife, Kim Kardashian West released a statement to social media confirming the assumptions and calling for leniency for those dealing with similar issues.

West has been open about his Bipolar Disorder diagnosis, over the years dealing with dips in his mental health. His most recent decline began sometime around his announcement that he would be running for president in the next election.

At a rally for his candidacy in South Carolina, West made several extreme statements that many felt were irresponsible, such as the claim that abolitionist Harriet Tubman, “never actually freed the slaves, she just had the slaves go work for other white people.” The statement drew boos from the crowd, but West didn’t stop there. He later broke down in tears when speaking about the birth of his daughter, North, explaining that he encouraged Kardashian West to get an abortion, which she ultimately decided against.

West’s statements drew massive negative attention, then days later he began Tweeting about his relationship with Kardashian West and his mother in law, Kris Jenner, stating that the two tried to have him involuntarily committed.

The public followed West’s Tweets closely, as well as Kardashian West’s, hoping for clarity. Kardashian West finally took to social media to comment on West’s situation.

She wrote on Instagram: “As many of you know, Kanye has bipolar disorder.

“He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bipolar disorder,” she added.

“Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions.

“Living with bipolar disorder does not diminish or invalidate his dreams and his creative ideas, no matter how big or unobtainable they may feel to some.

“That is part of his genius and as we have all witnessed, many of his big dreams have come true.

“I kindly ask that the media and public give us the compassion and empathy that is needed so that we can get through this.”

She continued, “Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behavior know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor. People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgmental and not understand that the individuals themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.

“We as a society talk about giving grace to the issue of mental health as a whole, however we should also give it to the individuals who are living with it in times when they need it the most,”

Days later West posted an apology to Kardashian West on Twitter, stating, “I would like to apologize to my wife Kim for going public with something that was a private matter. I did not cover her like she has covered me. Kim I want to say I know I hurt you. Please forgive me. Thank you for always being there for me,”

It is unclear now if West is currently seeking professional help, however fans are hoping he is able to recover.
