Vonyetta the trendsetter, the vivacious radio personality and beauty brand entrepreneur, is a captivating presence in the world of media and fashion. In our conversation with her, we explored her background, her journey through the dynamic realm of fashion and radio, her passion for her work, and her vision for the future.

Vonyetta hails from a small-town upbringing that has had a profound impact on her life. She shared, “I grew up small-town living for a great deal of my early years. I was born a Georgia peach by way of Augusta, GA. So yes, I am Georgia born and South Carolina made. I lived in Edgefield, SC. At the beginning of my freshman year in high school, we moved to Columbia, SC. I graduated from Dutch Fork High School. I grew up surrounded by family, attended church weekly, and more.” Her roots in a close-knit, community-oriented environment have shaped her values and provided a solid foundation for her journey.

Her style and fashion sense have undergone a remarkable transformation over the past decade. She revealed, “My fashion has evolved so much in the past 10 years, and I can honestly say, they both play off each other as far as how I evolved into my fashion self. My confidence level is totally different than it was a decade ago. I’ve ditched the units (wigs), and I’ve come into this new, bold woman. I’m making statements with my hair, while still keeping it cute, corporate, and sexy. I have learned to now embrace the bold side of fashion and set as many trends as I can.” Vonyetta’s journey into the world of fashion has not only enriched her personal style but also bolstered her self-confidence and allowed her to express her unique identity.

Balancing personal and professional life is a challenge for many in the media industry. Vonyetta has found a way to strike that balance. She shared her approach, saying, “People can’t ruin what they don’t know. I learned a little later in my career how important it is to keep your personal life as personal as you can. I share what I want the world to know while still keeping my private life private. I also don’t mix the two. When I come home, I hang work at the door and go straight into Mommy and wife mode. It gives soft girl era and I love it here.” This ability to compartmentalize her life has been instrumental in maintaining her well-being and success.

Mentors and role models have played a significant role in shaping Vonyetta’s career. She acknowledged, “I’ve had quite a few mentors in my career. From Terri Avery to Deon Cole to Bill Black, Chris Connors, Mr. Incognito, Reggie Rouse, just to name a few.” These mentors have provided her with guidance, insights, and the support needed to navigate the challenges of her industry.

Vonyetta’s passion for radio is unmistakable. She described her dedication, stating, “I allow God to use me. To be a vessel. When I DJ, people often say it’s ‘music therapy’. Hearing that alone just warms my soul. I crave to create musical memories where people remember. That’s passion. When this no longer became work, that’s when I crossed into a passion that delivered purpose.” Her deep connection with her work goes beyond the professional realm, as she aims to touch hearts and create lasting memories through her radio career.

Success, in Vonyetta’s eyes, is closely linked to taking risks and embracing faith. She shared, “Anytime you take a leap of faith is a moment of success. They all add up.” Success, to her, is the culmination of courageous decisions and the cumulative impact of each step taken on her journey.

For those aspiring to enter the radio and media industry, Vonyetta offered a piece of advice: “Be yourself! Do you and most of all, be revolutionary!” Her words of wisdom highlight the importance of authenticity and originality in a field that thrives on unique voices and perspectives.

Vonyetta also introduced her makeup line, Volt, a vegan beauty brand that is sulfate and paraben-free, with products available at shopwithvolt.com. Her foray into the beauty industry reflects her commitment to offering high-quality, ethical products that cater to the needs of her audience.

In addition to her ongoing endeavors, Vonyetta is in the early stages of planning her own conference, “Imperfectly Perfect,” an event that promises to be a remarkable gathering of like-minded individuals looking to inspire and empower one another.
