The Top 10 Most-Followed Celebrities on Instagram in 2018
The year 2018 is still young, but a couple months in Instagram Time can feel like eons (so many selfies, so little time). Whether they have the most compelling feeds or just the most loyal fandoms, the celebrities with the biggest Instagram followings say a lot about the year in pop culture so far—whose feeds we’re thirsty to scroll though for endless glam shots and what makes us hit that “like” button. Below, find out which stars have the most popular accounts of the year—from those who are still holding down the top spots to those who are new to the list this year.
1. Selena Gomez: 133 million followers
For a young star who has historically had a difficult past with social media—taking hiatuses for mental health reasons—Selena Gomez has maintained the most loyal stream of followers on Instagram, topping the list again this year. Whether it’s the rare romantic selfie with now ex Abel Tesfaye AKA The Weeknd or a photo of her snacking on pizza post-performance, she continues to give her fans adorable sneak peeks into her private life—and a ton of fashion inspo as the brand ambassador of Coach.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo: 121 million followers
Ronaldo continuously has a solid yearof action shots, chiseled shirtless portraits, and “get you a guy who can do both” suit and tie poses: the bread and butter. And it’s paid off: he’s still the No. 1 most followed guy on Instagram, moving from his post as sixth most popular to second most popular overall.
3. Ariana Grande: 117 million followers
2017 was a rough year for Grande after the Manchester bombing at her concert, though she continues to remain on the list of top 10 most-followed with frequent vacation selfies and photos with boyfriend Mac Miller. Ironically, she hasn’t posted any new Instagrams yet this year.
4. Beyoncé: 111 million followers
Her Mother Mary-inspired pregnancy shoot threatened to break the internet when she first revealed she was pregnant with twins last year, and she’s still baiting us with fashion shots, throwbacks, and Grammy fashion moments with hubby Jay Z.
5. Kim Kardashian: 108 million followers
These days, among the usual glam shots (one specifically taken by North West above), she’s posting plenty of #throwback photos of the Kardashian clan and sharing sweet photos of her family time with Kanye, Saint, North West, and her newborn daughter Chicago.
6. Taylor Swift: 106 million followers
She’s being keeping a pretty low-profile basically forever, but she’s still going strong on social media in 2018, breaking 100 million Instagram followers after the release of her latest album, Reputation.
7. Kylie Jenner: 104 million followers
It’s already been a wild year for Kylie. After keeping her pregnancy secret for nine months, the 20-year-old welcomed daughter Stormi Webster to the world with boyfriend Travis Scotton February 1. We can only hope for more baby pics in 2018.
8. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson: 100 million followers
Last year, “The Rock” was one of People‘s sexiest men alive and the actor is keeping up the the positive publicity with motivational clips and *much appreciated* workout videos.
9. Justin Bieber: 97.1 million followers
From his hugging campaign last year to his esoteric captions, the mystery that is Justin Bieber just keeps evolving, and people can’t stop tuning in. This year, the pop star sank down a spot on the top 10 Instagram list, who used to beat out “The Rock” and former flame Kendall Jenner in followers for the #8 slot. Now, he’s finding his spirituality while happily dating Selena Gomez—and they can’t get enough of each other.
10. Neymar Jr.: 89.7 million followers
The 26-year-old Brazilian professional soccer player made his professional debut at 17, and now plays as a forward on the Brazilian national team. Between his topless snow selfies, professional shots on the field, and insanely cute pictures with his family, it’s easy to see why so many people want to watch his every move.
Honorable Mention: Kendall Jenner: 87.6 million followers
It wouldn’t feel right if we left Jenner off the list—just 2.1 million followers short from Neymar Jr. After her whole Pepsi fiasco last year, it took fans a while to recover from the controversial ad, but they’re clearly still very much a fan of the model.
