The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards aired Sunday night filled with some surprising and not so surprising wins from shows like “Game of Thrones” and “Fleabag.” This year’s Emmys celebrated television, this year without a host.

The night began with a tribute to the Simpson, announcing Homer as the night’s host.

Billy Porter made history, becoming the first openly gay man to win the best actor in a drama award for his performance on FX’s “Pose.”

21-year-old actor, Jharrel Jerome dedicated his Emmy for the Netflix miniseries “When They See Us” to the men falsely accused in the Central Park jogger case.

Michelle Williams' Emmys Acceptance Speech

Michelle Williams took an Emmy for her lead role as dancer Gwen Verdon on the FX miniseries “Fosse/Verdon,” using her acceptance speech to call out pay equity and and visibility for women in media.

“The next time a woman, and especially a woman of color … tells you what she needs in order to do her job, listen to her, believe her, because one day she might stand in front of you and say thank you,” Williams said.

Fleabag Wins Best Comedy Series

The dark comedy, “Fleabag” won for best comedy, direction and writing. 

Game of Thrones Wins Best Drama

And, finally, the drama, “Game of Thrones” which had a polarizing final season took the biggest award of the night for best drama series.
