A Coaching Position Fit for a King

Y’all, this is HUGE! The Carolina Panthers just hired their first female coaching intern! Her name is Jennifer King and she is well-known for her superb coaching skills. She is originally from Rockingham County, where she played basketball as a shooting guard at Rockingham County High School.

Her fantastic playing skills earned her an assistant women’s basketball coaching position at Greensboro College. The Greensboro College Pride posted a record of 182 wins to 63 losses under King’s leadership. These wins included five USA South Regular Season championships, two conference championships, and four NCAA tournament appearances. They even made it to the Sweet 16 in 2011!

King’s coaching helped numerous players receive prestigious accolades as well. Her coaching led to four players receiving an All-American Award, five received a Conference Player of the Year Award, and two earned the Conference Freshman of the Year Award. She has also coached 28 All-Conference players and 49 Academic All-Conference players. King also coached the Johnson and Wales women’s basketball team and led them to the 2018 United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championship. You go, girl!

In addition to being a star basketball player and coach, she also played football as a quarterback and free safety of the Carolina Phoenix Women’s Tackle Football Team from 2006-2017. During her time on the team, she won six All-Americans. Currently, she plays for the New York Sharks as a wide receiver.

Her superb athletic background earned her the opportunity to coach for the Carolina Panthers, where she will be shadowing the wide receivers coach. Her main goal is to eventually be a NFL offensive coordinator.

When asked about how she feels to be hired as the Panthers’ first female coaching intern, she responded ““I think, for the little girls, that’s just what I want for them. To let them know that if that’s what they want to do, they can do it.”

King is certainly an inspiration to young girls and women everywhere who aspire to coach athletics of any kind. Her story is a testament to the fact that hard work, passion, drive and ambition are all key to reaching one’s goals. Never give up on your dreams, y’all! Congratulations again to Jennifer King for all her success, and we here at Level21 wish you the best of luck!
