Achieving our goals is seldom easy. It’s why knowing how to stay motivated is vital when it comes to getting what we want in the long term.
And in a world with more distractions than ever before, it can be all the harder to stay focused and not just give in to what’s more comfortable in the moment. I’ve often struggled with motivation, whether it’s been related to my career, my mental or physical health, or my disability. It’s hard to stay motivated at times when you feel like everything & everyone is against you. There are times where I feel that all of the forces of the univesre are moving against me.
But, there are times where that motivates to work harder. Even if it’s just to prove to myself that the universe isn’t really against me.
1. Set Small Goals with Realistic Time Frames
We’ve all got big dreams, but they don’t magically fall in our lap. We have to work towards them & getting there is no comfortable journey.
If you’re a planner like me, you have a picture in your head of where you want to be five or ten years from now. Of course, we have no control over what happens, but there are steps we can to take to make our dreams come true.
For example, one of my goals for the next five years is to be a full-time writer. I can’t just walk into the Headquarters of Cosmopolitan and apply for a job as a writer. I need to set small, more task-oriented goals with realistic time frames. This method can make even the most significant task feel more manageable.
2. Give Yourself Daily Affirmations
Have you ever woken up & immediately said to yourself ‘today, is not my day’? Me too.
If you’ve ever woken up & said that or if you need some mid-day motivation, here are some daily affirmations you can try! Stand in front of your mirror, say them while your cat’s listening; the vital part is you are lifting yourself up.
- I love and accept myself
- I am worthy
- I make my own goals & crush them
- I am courageous and speak my truth
- I inspire those around me
- I let go and let the universe do its thing
- I will never give on my dreams and goals
- Today will be another successful day
- I am prepared to take advantage of the great opportunities presented to me
- I am a positive person who attracts positive situations for success
3. Be Accountable
Holding yourself accountable is integral to the importance of being consistent with your work. This means that even if you’re not in the mood, do one small proactive thing that will move you towards your ultimate goal.
Even the smallest thing can be a proactive step towards your ultimate goal. As the famous saying goes, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’.
Your dreams won’t be handed to you. You have to work for them. You have to fight for them.
