For the East Coast fashion lover who may not be able to make it to New York in September, or hop a flight to Miami later this month- options are few for those looking to partake in Fashion Week. However, thanks to husband and wife team, Kenyon and Desiree Glover, Atlanta has something fresh to bring to the table. Georgia Peach Fashion Week is a blend of couture fashion, art, and entertainment. From April 6-9th GPFW hosted a number of events including: Youth Day, Model workshops, a networking mixer, Mommy/Daddy & Me Walk-Off, and La’ Curve Couture- an awesome showcase of plus-size fashions. Collections for curvy girls are becoming more prevalent in runway shows, however, you may only see one or two lines at most. GPFW dedicated an entire day of shows to plus size designers; their goal, according to their website, was to bring ‘plus size / curvy designers and brands in the forefront on a global platform to elevate the plus size/curvy customer on a level equal to that of the aesthetic and cache of other fashion shows.’…And they definitely delivered!
GPFW was well attended, especially by Atlanta socialites and celebrities. The Braxton Family (minus Traci) graced the red carpet and were actually filming for an upcoming show. Grammy winner Anthony David also made an appearance, as well as reality star Robin Dyke, from Bravo’s Mother Funders, and even Althea (formerly from Love & Hip Hop ATL and Marriage Boot Camp) was there- she confirmed that she and Benzino are actually working on their own reality show, but put your cups away ya’ll, because she said she can’t spill the tea on it just yet.
Having just made their debut in 2015, Georgia Peach Fashion Week appears to be doing all they can to ensure they make their mark on the east coast fashion scene, and I’ll continue to watch.
