Robin Ayers, a cherished radio host and entertainment journalist, passed away on December 5 at the age of 44. The news was confirmed by fellow KBLA radio host Tavis Smiley, who expressed the profound loss in a heartfelt statement on social media.
“It is with profound sadness that KBLA Talk 1580 announces the passing of our beloved colleague Robin Ayers,” Smiley wrote on X. “Robin was a bright light. You could see her radiant smile through the radio. We all respected her immense talent and loved her jovial spirit.”
Ayers had been a vital member of the KBLA team since March 2022, hosting “The RA Report with Robin Ayers,” a weekday segment that focused on entertainment news and featured interviews with celebrity guests. Her vibrant personality and engaging reporting style made her a favorite among listeners and colleagues alike.
The KBLA team is planning a memorial to honor Ayers’ contributions and legacy.
Although the cause of Ayers’ death has not been officially confirmed, she had previously shared her diagnosis of Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) in 2023. This rare and aggressive form of cancer affects soft tissues and muscles, most often occurring in the abdomen or uterus. Despite her diagnosis, Ayers courageously used her platform to advocate for women’s health, urging her followers to be attentive to their bodies and prioritize self-care.
In addition to her role at KBLA, Ayers enjoyed a remarkable career in entertainment journalism. She worked with prominent networks including BET, Fox, and OWN and co-hosted the YouTube-based podcast Afterbuzz TV. She was perhaps best known for her nearly four years as an entertainment correspondent with the news outlet EURweb.
Lee Bailey, founder and publisher of EURweb, shared a moving tribute to Ayers on the outlet’s website. “With heavy hearts, the entertainment journalism community mourns the passing of Robin Ayers,” he wrote. “Her vibrant personality and passion for storytelling left a significant void in the world of entertainment journalism and broadcasting. Robin was not just a colleague but a friend, and her impact will never be forgotten.”
Beyond her professional achievements, Ayers was known for her deep love for her family. She is survived by her husband, Rob, and their twin daughters, Brooklyn and Madison, who had recently turned 18. Just days before her passing, Ayers shared a heartwarming Thanksgiving post on Instagram, celebrating her daughters’ milestone birthday. “With the fam! Celebrating Thanksgiving and the twins’ 18th bday! Whoa,” she captioned the photo.
Robin Ayers will be remembered for her passion, authenticity, and the joy she brought to her work and those around her. Her legacy as a journalist, advocate, and loving mother will continue to inspire all who knew her.
