The 2024 HBCU Labor Day Classic Battle of the Bands in Charlotte, North Carolina happened despite thunderstorms. Organizers were given the ok to continue the event after ensuring the safety of all attendees. Guest had eagerly anticipated the performances of some of the nation’s finest marching bands from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and the weather did not dampen their spirits. The bands, too, were undeterred by the rain.
From the moment the event began, the energy was electric. The fan fest kicked off as planned, with food trucks offering local favorites and vendors showcasing their products. Crowds huddled under umbrellas and ponchos as they continued to enjoy performances.
As the evening progressed, the main event—the Battle of the Bands—kicked off. Bands from North Carolina A&T University, Mississippi Valley State University, Clark Atlanta University, and several other schools took to the field, their performances a testament to the passion and precision that define HBCU bands.
